A Fond Farewell

PORTLAND, Oregon – June 25, 2001–Portlander Cat Connor awoke to a sad shock today to find her companion of 12 years dead at her side. Accustomed to waking to the sound of bad adult contemporary music, Ms. Connor instead rose, 30 minutes late, to a room full of silence. “I checked to see if it was set, and if the radio worked. Everything was fine. But the alarm was just…dead.” Ugly but serviceable, the clock-radio with a tape deck had been with Connor since she had her first apartment. “I’ll miss it, but life goes on.” She said stoically. The alarm clock is survived by a wake-to-cd from Sharper Image.
