Back to the Wheel

pottery studio

It’s been about five years since I last sat down at a pottery wheel. I’ve been ignoring the itch for a while, but finally gave in and signed up for a class at ArtCenter Manatee.

I really like the instructor, who is a dyed-in-the-wool wheel thrower, so I’m already learning new things. Today, if we could manage it, we were to concentrate on throwing a cylinder. Despite my previous experience, I decided to stick with the class for the moment. I think I acquitted myself well.

I threw two of these little towers, and was very, very done. It’s hard work! I was pleased that I still have the knack of it.  Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

I’ve never made a candy dish, let alone a cylinder, but I’ve seen what happens when the wheel is spinning and things go wrong. That cylinder is a very difficult thing to do and yours is a beauty.
