- Greenshoes
Original Flavor. An eclectic mix of pop. Moody and atmospheric, yet danceable.
-
Radio Rock Stars
Tangy Barbeque Sauce. Lila has put together a mix with edgy twang informed by blues sensibilities, all with a heart of rock and roll.
-
Bleedingmonkey
Cinnamon Altoids. A strong mix of electronic exhuberance with a tasty dollop of punk and a sprinkling of whimsy.
- Crabwalk.com
Poprocks. Josh has strayed from the beaten path to mix pop you won't find on the radio, with a side-dish a bit darker and harder.
- JerryKindall.com: Earth
Jolly Rancher Watermelon. All four of Jerry's elementals deliver a mix of new and old--you may know the artist but the cuts are unusual. Jerry mixes what you used to hear on an album station, before they were all purchased by Viacom. Each mix takes on the slant of its element.
- JerryKindall.com: Air
Jolly Rancher Pink Lemonade. See above.
- JerryKindall.com: Fire
Jolly Rancher Fire, what else? See above above.
- JerryKindall.com: Water
Jolly Rancher Apple. See above above above.
- Perils of Leisure
A shared order of fries with lots of ketchup. Paula sends a great mix of modern rock: girl bands, boy bands, and a few surprises.
- Justkim.com
Bon Bons. You know, something you only eat in a theatre. Kim's mixed in some showtunes and some pop for a delicious and cool disk. (Fair warning: not all the tracks are perfect on this. I'll try to fix it in the burn if you request this disk.)
- Chip6061
Popcorn with butter. I kick myself for losing the tracklist to this. Not that it matters--I've listened to it so many times I just about have it memorized. Like crunchy, buttery popcorn, this mix of outstanding pop is something I can't stop indulging in.
- Phonezilla
Dots. Over the course of listening to this disk many, many times, every single song on it got stuck in my head. Just like Dots. I'll be buying most of the tracklist myself. It's almost all current, all high-quality pop, and it will cause you to spend money and whistle while you do it.
- Green To Me
Meat and Potatoes. In 1993 Jamie sent me a disk that formed much of my musical taste for the last decade. This is the stuff I listen to every day. I was appropriately excited to get a greenshoes mix from him. He again hits it on the head with some underappreciated melodic pop from some very skilled folks. When I say "meat and potatoes" I don't mean boring. I mean stuff you'll listen to all the time.
- Songs That Make Me Giggle Uncontrollably
Laughing gas. Brad didn't actually send this as part of the Greenshoes project, but after I got it I asked if I could add it to the catalog. The title nails it.
- Songs I Believe I Am
Manwich and tequila. I'm very fond of JR, so when I got his disk I danced over to the player, popped it in, and turned it up without knowing what was on it. I made the right decision about the volume thing. It's loud, it's smart, it has stuff you've never heard (if I'm wrong, I'll send you a dollar). Crank it.
- Pinkhand: The Chick Mix
Strawberry Peñafiel. This was my favorite thing to have with a mole chicken super burrito at Maya's. When they stopped carrying it, I was sad. Likewise, the majority of the songs on this new frytopia mix are old favorites, and leave a sweet taste in my mouth.
- Heike Hahn
General Foods International Coffees. There are at least four languages on my friend Heike's mix of European power pop. My favorite so far is the French rap. This mix is sure to make you feel continental.
- Kathrynyu.com
Onion rings at the Roxy. All indie, all the time. Kathyrn has put together a mix of great beats for all you indie kids. It's a super mix that I've listened to at least 20 times.
So how do I get me some?
