She just walked out the door. Not too much fanfare (that was yesterday), but I got a hug. I tell myself I'm not going to miss her, because I'm going to write and meet her for lunch/dinner whatever, but I still find my heart sagging a little to know I won't be able to kick back in her office with a gripe and a giggle every day. Then I immediately feel selfish, of course. Marge is one of those people who ends up everyone's friend. Her retirement luncheon yesterday was a joyful outpouring of love from the whole office. Each of us believes we're special to her, because she makes each of us feel that way. I'm a terrible friend. I forget to write, and I never call, but this time, I keep telling myself I'll get it right. I'll get it right, Marge, I will. Happy retirement. May you have more fun than a sun-warmed cat in a field full of butterflies.

Saw The Lake House last night. It was a sweet little romantic film. Everyone put in believable performances (yes, even Keanu), and the writing was reasonably engaging. The soundtrack sucked rocks. They played the worst of it--some awful Paul McCartney thing--again over the credits. So, unlike X3, don't stay. Strangely, though there are only two years between the lovers, the 2004 scenes with Bullock often seem like flashbacks to the 70s. It's only two years, people! In any case, great date movie. Take your sweetie.

Considering what a horrible time some folks have cancelling a service, I thought I should share an unusual experience: Comcast let me roll back without complaint. In fact, they were on the line very quickly (after I punched the right numbers, there was no hold time!), and the rep was local* and friendly. I admit I called to cancel, but only rolled back to the most basic service to preserve our internet bandwidth. Nonetheless, it's a difference of $34/month, which the rep happily arranged, even waiving the associated fee. It's possible I might have had more trouble if I had not been retaining my broadband service, but I doubt it. No, I'm not hyping Comcast. I disagree with a lot they've done, and I'm not into monolithic monopolies. But this time they got it right.

What has as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, and costs about six cents? One tablet of Extra-Strength Excedrin. I don't drink coffee, and I've been wanting to cut down on the diet soda, but there are some mornings I need a little boost. The 65mg of caffeine in an Excedrin tablet (okay, I take two) works very quickly, is cheap, and as safe as a cuppa joe. A 250-count bottle costs about $16. Keep in mind that one tablet also contains 250mg of acetaminophen and 250mg of aspirin, so if you're sensitive to either of these, the Excedrin Buzz is not for you. Also: SLEEP RESPONSIBLY. If you're ingesting something every day just to wake up, it may be time to reconsider your schedule, or get a sleep study. I try not to take anything more than once a week. Today, after a hard night with allergies, I'm poppin' them pills.

Tonight we worked on making our home smooth. Since that's only going to make sense to folks with a little OCD, let me explain. Smooth is:
I can't think of much that delivers the same feeling of satisfaction as working on the house. It's nice going to bed with a sense of accomplishment. And a slightly smoother home.

Microkitty didn't make it. Kimberly and family did everything they could for the tiny guy. Never was a kitty more loved.

![]() snake Originally uploaded by frykitty. Silly me, I didn't get his name. 90 pounds, 15 feet, and all of it lovely, this is a Burmese Albino Python I got to hold at this year's Waterfront Village. $5 for the photo--a bargain!

Last night was cooking night, and it has brung more veggie loaf and the casserole below. We cooked up our entire delivery of vegetables, except for just a few potatoes and a couple cloves of garlic. Note to veggie-loaf lovers: this time, we roasted the veggies first, and it didn't really make a difference. So don't waste the extra time. In the delivery were some fresh green beans, so naturally we did what our white-person instincts demanded: got out the cream-of-mushroom soup. 2 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced
